Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a certificate and an appraisal?
A certificate describes a stone: what it is and its quality. It does not state a price. An appraisal report gives an estimated value, usually for insurance or estate purposes. They are separate documents.
Do you certify laboratory-grown diamonds?
Yes. CGL certifies both natural and laboratory-grown diamonds, and every certificate states clearly which one the stone is.
Does my stone need to be loose?
For a diamond or gemstone certificate, yes. We do not remove stones from their settings. Mounted jewellery can be examined for an appraisal report or a verbal assessment.
Can you examine jewellery I bought elsewhere?
Yes. CGL examines stones and jewellery regardless of where they were purchased.
How long does it take?
Documents are ready within 10 working days. If a stone needs further examination, we will call you to explain.
How can I check that a CGL certificate is genuine?
Every certificate is recorded in our laboratory database and can be checked on the Verify Certificate page.
How much does it cost?
A jewellery appraisal report starts from €80 per piece and a verbal assessment from €30 per piece, including VAT. For certificate fees, please contact us.
